Learn about locked observations, reasons for locking observations, and implications of unlocking.
If you select "Open Observation" and do not see an Edit button in the right-hand corner, the observation may be locked.
Reasons for locked observations
The following actions, available on the Admin Actions tab, may result in a finalized observation becoming locked.
- Someone has been prompted to sign the observation and has already signed. If the “Require observee to sign observation” option is toggled on and the observation has already been signed, a user cannot edit the observation.
- The district has toggled on the option to lock the observation after a certain amount of time. If the “Override form setting to lock after 365” option is toggled on, a user cannot edit the observation after one year.
- The “Lock observation” option has been toggled on.
Implications for unlocking a locked observation
An observation can be unlocked by a district administrator; however, if the observation requires the observee to sign it, they will need to re-sign the observation again after it has been unlocked and edited.
Note: Locked observations require district admin approval in order to unlock.
