Learn how to record videos from your mobile device using our video app.
Please note: This article applies to all users with SchoolMint Grow Hosted Video
Logging in to the App
When you open the app click Get Started. You will then search for your district in the Search Bar and log in with the same information that you use to access SchoolMint Grow in your browser.
Uploading a Video
To add a video, click the plus sign in the top right corner. You can then choose to Record a new Video or Select Video from Library. If you are recording a new video, press the red button to start and stop the recording.
Your video will then show in your Video Hub library on the app. You will also be able to interact with this video from the SchoolMint Grow Video Hub on your browser.
Selecting a Video from Library
When a video is selected from the device gallery, a loader window will appear while the file is being copied to the application directory.
Note: The time it takes depends on the size of the video.
.
Local Compression
In our 3.4.0 release, we added a step to enable local compression before the upload process. This will greatly reduce the size of the video and will transform the video to mp4 format, which speeds up the transcoding process.
❗️ Important note: Do not close the application during the compression step, as this can affect the compression process.
When the local compression is completed, the upload process will automatically start. At this point the user can close the application, as the upload process will continue in the background.
The transcoding process happens in the server. As in the previous step, the application will execute this in the background, so the application can be safely closed. After the transcoding is complete, the video is ready and the feed will automatically reload.
.
Compression Settings
The Application Settings page allows for video compression to be toggled on/off. It will be ON by default. Users can also change video quality in the Settings.
Note: Video quality affects the compression, if compression is activated. This means that a low video quality will increase the compression of the video.

Adding Timestamps
To add timestamps to any of your videos click the play button on that video. When you reach the time where you would like to add a note, press Add Note. You can then type in your note and hit save. This note will then appear at that time on the video.
Editing Details
You can also edit the details associated with this video. This allows you to add course and grade information as well as note who is in the video. Adding these details can make it easier to search for a specific video later on.
To edit details select the three dots next to a video and choose Edit Notes & Details. You can then click into any of the Info sections to edit or add information.
Sharing a Video
You can choose to share your video with other users at your school. To share a video click the three dots and select Share Video. You can then decide who you would like to share with by selecting their names.
Access Level determines if the user can pull the video into an observation. Notes and Comments determine whether you want to share your existing comments and timestamped notes or send a blank copy. The Personal Note section is where you can leave a note that will go in the body of the email to the shared individuals.
